In Flagstaff every first Friday of the month there is an art walk downtown. Shelbi and I (Jace) were at this art work exploring the shops. Exiting one of the shops, Shelbi said hello to a group of people she knew - a group of people from church, some Catholic missionaries, a friend of hers, and an unspecting Joanna, who was being shown around by the missionaries. We introduced ourselves and didn't talk at that point. Maybe half an hour later, we all moved to the city square and after Shelbi finished her conversation with Joanna, I noticed she wasn't talking to anyone. I had overheard that she was from Tucson, and I figured that was an innocent enough way to start a conversation with her. We talked for a little bit, learning about each others jobs and aspirations, then the whole group walked up the road to go to the old church that only opened on special occasions, this night being one of them. We walked to the church together and made eye contact a few more times throughout the night. After praying for a bit, Shelbi and I left the church. By this point Joanna was in a big group of college age girls and I reluctantly went home without speaking to her again. A few months passed and I was at church one Sunday night when a girl with long brown hair in the front row caught my eye. Eventually I realized that she was the same girl I met the other night. I tried to make sure I left church at the same time as her, and tried to remember her name. Right before I got within speaking of her, it came to me. I said 'Hey, didn't I meet you the other day?" She said "yes," but didn't remember my name. We talked a bit after church. After that I made sure to always go to church at that time in hopes of seeing her again. We started a routine of talking to each other after church every time we were both there, and eventually, I asked for her phone number. I invited her to get coffee that weekend and, as they say, the rest is history.
