Jon

&

Abby

April 20, 2024

Pittsburgh, PA

Love Story (Jabby's Version)

Jon and Abby had known of each other throughout high school, but it wasn't until 2010 when they first had a class together. Ms. Mitchell's Communications Class was memorable for many reasons, but perhaps none more than the start of a friendship that would last well beyond 7th period. Years would pass by until they reconnected during the Summer of 2014. With Abby in her Junior Year at Pitt and Jon in his Senior Year at Syracuse, these fools decided to start a long-distance relationship. In 2015, Jon graduated and moved to Washington, D.C. Abby graduated in 2016, and in 2017 she moved to D.C. and brought along her dog, Gibson. The rest, as they say, is history. Jon and Abby survived tiny apartments, parking court, and a global pandemic together. They bought their first home together in 2020, and opened their first bar together in 2021. In 2022, Jon finally decided the time had come to ask Abby to marry him.

The Proposal

8.20.22

While Jon has cultivated Abby's enjoyment of craft beer and taught her everything she knows about soccer (and everything she doesn't want to know about the Giants), Abby has managed to get Jon to like dogs and enjoy trips to Disney. It didn't take long for Jon to realize that the only place he could propose to Abby was Walt Disney World. In cahoots with her parents, Jon planned a trip to Walt Disney World in August of 2022 under the guise of a "family vacation." He convinced Abby to get dinner at one of their favorite restaurants, Geyser Point, before her parents arrived from the airport. He booked a photographer and planned a beautiful engagement on the shores of Bay Lake. But, the Florida weather had other ideas. As Abby and Jon pulled in to Disney's Wilderness Lodge, a late summer thunderstorm broke out. Jon tried his best to kill time by dragging Abby throughout the hotel to check out all of the Walt Disney Railroad artifacts on display, but eventually it was time for Plan B. The photographers relocated inside and Jon popped the question on the bridge over Copper Creek inside the Wilderness Lodge lobby. To the sound of applause from the guests waiting out the thunderstorm in the lobby, Abby said "YES!"
