Have you ever heard the phrase, "When you know, you know"? Well, we definitely knew! We started out as friends, and were for months. We were hanging out with the same group of friends at the time, so we saw each other all of the time. At first, we didn't really know each other at all. Justin was occupied with work and doing extra jobs on the side in his free time. In the Winter months, he works 12hr shifts, 7 days a week which doesn't leave much time for a social life. At the time, I was working 12hr night shifts and trying to keep up on sleep whenever I possibly could. We didn't talk much, just in passing when we were hanging out with other people. I didn't even know his real name for a long time. I knew him as Pineapple, which is the nickname he got at work once people found out he is Hawaiian. For a while, we never saw each other has more than just friends. A few months had passed, it was Summer going on Fall. I was out of work after getting injured on the job so we saw each other a lot more often. We started talking and texting outside of our friend's group. We quickly learned that we had a lot to talk about with each other. We bonded over sharing similar past experiences, future goals, views on life and of course, our mutual love of food. He asked me if I had ever tried Chicken Francaise, and he was shocked to hear that I had not. He told me that Vasta's had the best and he wants to take me to get some. The following weekend, he got two orders of Chicken Francaise from Vasta's and drove me up to Mount Utsayantha eat dinner and watch the sunset. Going into this outing, I still didn't see him has anything more than a friend and I didn't consider it a date. Following the most beautiful sunset, we didn't want the night to end. We drove around for hours in his Toyota Tacoma that I spent the entire night trying to figure out how to put the window up since the handle was broken but I was too shy to ask. We talked about everything and anything. The conversations between came so naturally and weren’t forced. It was refreshing to be able to talk to someone who I immediately clicked with. I could tell something was on his mind because he kept finding a way to touch hands as we exchanged stories, and I was definitely playing along. As our night came to an end, he dropped me off and started saying our goodbyes. He hugged me and has he pulled away, we kissed. We were both taken by surprise and weren't quite sure what to say, until we kissed a second time. And from that moment on, as weird as it sounds, there was something in the back of my head telling me that he was the one. So turns out that our first date didn't start out as a date but it ended up being the best one. A few days later, we made our relationship official and we have been inseparable ever since.
About 2 1/2 years later, on the evening of May 15,2022, it had just stopped raining so the sky was pink and it was obviously the sunset was going to be amazing. Justin got home a little late and came running in the house. He said we needed go watch the sunset on Mount U! So thats what we did. It wasn’t any different that any other time that we had been there until he pulled a little black box out my his pocket and got down on one knee.
