If you are flying in I suggest an Uber or taxi from the airport and staying at a hotel in the French Quarter. Parking and driving is tight in the French Quarter, but it is very walkable. If driving in, you can stay in the garden district or French Quarter. The garden district is gorgeous, but not a good walking distance from the French Quarter.
