🚤 Amsterdam: A Saturday on the Water Distance from Oosterbeek: ~1,5 hour by train Amsterdam is a city defined by its relationship with water, and we can’t wait to show it to you properly. On Saturday, July 11th, we’ll be hosting a 2.5-hour private cruise through the UNESCO-listed canal belt aboard the Bota Fogo. To make the most of your Saturday before the boat tour, we recommend: The Jordaan District: Wander through this former working-class neighborhood, now home to narrow streets, independent boutiques, and "brown cafes" (traditional Dutch pubs). The Museumplein: Home to the world-renowned Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. If you plan to visit, please book your tickets several weeks in advance! The 9 Streets (De 9 Straatjes): The ultimate spot for photography and "window shopping" along the most picturesque stretches of the grand canals.
🔔 Utrecht: The "Cozier" Sister City Distance from Oosterbeek: ~35 minutes by train If you have a free Sunday, Utrecht is a local favorite. Often called "Amsterdam’s cozier sister," it features unique medieval wharves where the cellars open directly onto the water level. It’s the perfect place for a relaxed Sunday brunch by the canal. Be sure to look up at the Dom Tower—the highest church tower in the Netherlands.
🛡️ Nijmegen: Ancient History & Riverside Views Distance from Oosterbeek: ~20 minutes by car/train As the oldest city in the Netherlands, Nijmegen offers a beautiful blend of Roman history and vibrant modern culture. It’s located just across the river from our wedding region. Walk the Waalbrug for stunning views of the massive river barges, or explore the ruins in the Valkhof Park. The city’s terraces are famously lively on warm July evenings.
🚲 Hoge Veluwe & The Secret Garden Wedding Location & Surroundings Our wedding takes place on Monday, July 13th at Tuin de Lage Oorsprong in Oosterbeek. This "secret garden" is tucked away in a region of rolling hills and deep forests. Art & Nature: Just minutes away is the Kröller-Müller Museum, located inside a National Park. You can grab a free "White Bicycle" at the gate and cycle through sand dunes to reach a world-class Van Gogh collection and one of Europe’s largest sculpture gardens. History: Oosterbeek was a pivotal site during WWII's Operation Market Garden. The Airborne Museum Hartenstein offers a deeply moving look into this history right in the heart of the village.
