We were first introduced by friends in Chicago at one of Nick's infamous post-college Fremont House parties. We kept running into each other, and each time Nick would tell Izzy he’d love to take her out, but no solid plans were ever made. Then we were reconnected on Izzy's 25th birthday, where we danced all night and Nick took a cab halfway across the city to make sure Izzy got home safely. At the end of the night, Nick once again told Izzy that he'd love to take her out, to which she responded, "then just do it already!" The next day Nick left Izzy a voicemail asking her out to a concert, to which Izzy accepted. Our first date included tacos, a Black Crowes concert and getting shushed by the audience – they didn’t appreciate the fun we were having - at an old school Chicago jazz club. We immediately set up another date – another concert – and we’ve been grooving together ever since.
After moving to New York for Nick’s job, Nick started planning out the perfect proposal to show his love and appreciation for Izzy and the move we made. Not long after celebrating our first full year in the city, a calendar invite popped up on Izzy’s calendar for a client event a few weeks away at the “David Bowie Is” exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. Izzy accepted, without any idea what Nick was really planning. When the day finally arrived, we started the walk over to the museum and after a few blocks of awkward silence, heavy breathing, and stress walking - Nick swore to Izzy that he was just tired - they made it to Grand Army Plaza. In front of Prospect Park and the beautiful Grand Army archway, Nick got down on one knee and proposed. Completing the big day, Nick had arranged for friends and family from across the country to surprise Izzy at our rooftop winery in Brooklyn, followed by dinner and a party in the city. It was a day we will never forget!
