We actually met before 2017. We both worked at the Burbank Pavilions. I was a “floater” clerk in the floral and bakery departments, and a bagger at the front end; Jonathan was a meat clerk.
Jonathan booked a hotel room for the night in Little Tokyo to get out of the house. I suspected nothing at all. We packed up after work and headed over to the hotel, checked in and dropped off our stuff, then went out to walk around the Japanese Village Plaza. We ate dinner at a small restaurant, grabbed dessert at a bakery, then went back to the room to watch tv and hang out. The next morning, we had breakfast and did some shopping at our favorite stores. We eventually called it a day and went back home. While I was cleaning and dancing to music in the kitchen, I heard Jonathan say my name. I turned around and there he was, down on one knee in our kitchen with a huge smile on his face and tears in his eyes. I quickly shut off my music and automatically started crying from happiness. Every word he said made both of us cry even harder and I said yes as soon as he asked me to marry him!
