The Best Thing We Never Planned

We didn’t fall in love on purpose. We started as friends during COVID, both living completely different lives and walking through completely different seasons. Like many friendships from that time, life eventually moved forward, schedules changed, responsibilities grew, and we slowly lost touch. He became busy building Kingdom Halls. She became busy in her ministry and preparing for a big move to New York. Neither of us knew that while we were living our separate lives, Our paths were taking us to the same place He was accepted into Bethel and moved to New York. Not long after, she was called to commute into Bethel too. And then, one ordinary day, in the lunchroom, there we were again. A simple, unexpected meet-up sparked a friendship that never really stopped after that. What started as two old friends reconnecting slowly became one of the sweetest parts of our lives. We became beach buddies, safe places, and trusted friends. The kind of friends who could talk about relationship drama, trauma, hard days, funny stories, deep feelings, and all the “blah blah blah” in between. Somewhere along the way, we became the person the other one wanted to call, the one we looked for in the room, the one who showed up when there was a need, and the one who made ordinary days feel lighter. We weren’t looking for each other that way. We weren’t planning it. But little by little, our friendship became our favorite place to land — the person we wanted to tell every story to, save every laugh for, lean on when life felt heavy, and find again at the end of the day. Before we even realized what was happening, “just friends” had quietly started to feel just like home. Looking back, it still makes us smile how unplanned it all was. We didn’t chase it. We didn’t force it. We didn’t see it coming. But Jehovah knew what we needed long before we did. What began as a friendship we never expected to find again has brought us here — to our wedding day, to a promise before Jehovah, and to the beginning of a life we get to build side by side. So this is our story: two friends, two different paths, one unexpected lunchroom moment, and a love that became the best thing we never planned. And now, what started as the best thing we never planned has become something we choose with purpose, build with love, and promise before Jehovah — for the rest of our lives.
