How We Met

8.31.17

We met on the first day of an art class that we were both enrolled in at St. Michael’s College. One of our assignments was to have half of the students stand in the center of the room while the other half sketched them. Dan looked up and saw that I was drawing him. We started talking and then one week when our class was cancelled, Dan asked me if I wanted to go out to get French fries. That was the day we started dating. So there I was, being a goof with my bud on the rugby team and getting drawn by the other half of our “Intro to Drawing” class. Little did Ivy know that I saw her drawing me specifically out of all the other people she could have chosen. That’s what gave me the confidence to actually go talk to her, and when I did we spent the whole day walking around campus talking. The rest, well, that’s history.

The Proposal

2.29.20

I thought my best friend was coming up to visit because she wanted to spend time with me, but in reality, Dan had already texted Anna and asked her to come up to Vermont. Anna and I went down to Burlington for the day, and our first stop was at a local teashop. As we were leaving, the man at the register said that my tea had already been paid for. Next we went to a clothing store and when Anna went to pay for her stuff, the cashier also pulled out a chocolate bar with my name on it. At this point I knew something was going on, but had no clue as to what. We then walked down the street to a bookstore, and as we were paying, the woman pulled a rose from under the counter and gave it to me. I was really suspicious at this point. We went to a restaurant for lunch, and as we sat down to order, the waitress brought over 5 roses and a card. In the card was a riddle to lead me to Dan and the other six roses. The clue led us down to a pavilion on the Lake Champlain waterfront. As we got closer, I saw rose petals on the walkway and roses tied to the railing going up the stairs. At the top of the steps, there was an empty patio on my left. Then from behind me, Dan came out with my other six roses. At that point I knew what was next, and of course, I said yes! My best friend pulled me through the set up - thanks Austin. I got really nervous, and Anna’s half finished texts didn’t help. We didn’t get any pictures but it’s not a day I’ll soon forget.
