We met on the first day of classes for our Music of the Black Atlantic class, it was Ivan's sophomore year and Imani's freshman year. Our teacher had everyone go through the class and say introductions, you know the basics; name, year, what instruments you play and who your greatest musical influences are. As many of you know, Imani and Ivan are two very musically inclined individuals, so when they learned about each others talents they saw the opportunity for musical collaboration. Testing the theory, Ivan and Imani explored each others musical capabilities in a music practice room at Bard College. When their exploration was cut short by someone who had the room reserved (and wasn’t shy about kicking them out), they didn’t want the moment to end. So they walked to the campus center to keep the music going. . Looking back, that moment holds so much weight, not just because of the music, but because of the connection that started forming that day. Music brought us together, and at times brought us back to each other. But what really kept us going was a deep love, a lot of learning, and the way our relationship began to center God as we grew (both individually and as a couple). We feel incredibly blessed to have gone through most of our college experience with one another. And even more than that, we're excited to spend the rest of our lives together.
