The Zhaos

Carolyn & Kevin met through a mutual friend and had their first date on February 7th, 2015 at The Bureau 510 (Emeryville, CA) where they played Jenga for the first time and discovered their competitiveness/love for games. They continued to date and bond over their shared family values, love for food, and love for all things dog-related.

After a few months of dating, Carolyn and Kevin decided to make it official on May 30th, 2015. To celebrate, they gathered some friends and went to Tomales Bay Oyster Company to have a picnic (before it closed later that year).

After dating for over 3 years, Kevin and Carolyn moved into an apartment (with another roommate) near Lake Merritt in Oakland, CA for a year before moving to The Landing Jack London, where they ended up living on their own between mid 2020 to 2023.

After a rough 2023 summer and over a year of house hunting, Carolyn and Kevin finally found and closed on their dream house. They had been living together in the same 1 bedroom apartment from mid 2020 and started to outgrow the 800 sq ft space with their dogs Kairi and Kona. After moving and settling into their new house, they added the newest member to their dog pack (named Calbert) officially in December 2024.

On August 19th, Kevin planned for Elizabeth (Co-MOH) to take Carolyn out for high-tea with some friends while he set up their backyard for an intimate proposal. After coming back from high tea, Kevin led Carolyn down the path covered in rose-petals to their yard where he serenaded her with one of her favorite songs (Can't Help Falling In Love - Elvis Presley) and proposed on one knee. Carolyn said yes and a handful of friends jumped out from the house to congratulate and celebrate with them.

On May 30th, 2024, Carolyn and Kevin went to SF City Hall for their Civil Ceremony appointment to officially sign their marriage license. Edward, Carolyn's brother, came along as the witness and doubled as a photographer for the day. Elizabeth and Virginia (Maid of Honors) were also there to witness and support the couple for the day. The group helped the couple take pictures before the signing appointment, then went out for a small brunch afterwards at Bar Sprezzatura.
