Chuck and I officially met during the summer of 2017. I was working a midnight shift at Fairfield University and he came by that night to visit one of his old co-workers, Dave. Dave introduced us to each other and we spent some time talking before he went home. Later that night, Dave said “Hey, Chuckie’s single!” I immediately shot him down and never though much of it after that. Fast forward to January 19, 2018. I was at work, but happened to switch up my normal patrol routine by heading to the Townhouses which is when I saw a male asleep underneath the rear bumper of a car. He was intoxicated and needed to be transported to the hospital. I requested an ambulance and when AMR arrived, I saw Chuck step out. Afraid to really interfere with them doing their job and not sure Chuck would remember me, I wasn’t sure whether to say hello to him or not. I decided it probably wouldn’t hurt so I gave him a quick “Hey”. He recognized me right away and said “Hey, good to see ya!” I had wanted to add him on Facebook prior to this interaction, but felt too much time had passed since I first met him and thought it might be weird since I only spoke to him that one time briefly. I figured this was my chance to begin a friendship and messaged him on Facebook saying “Hey, I didn’t know you worked for AMR?!” He replied “Yes ma’am!” For the next few days we were texting constantly day and night - literally! Chuck told me the night he took that call on campus he was working an over time shift. He had been asked if he wanted to stay after his normally scheduled shift and he agreed. Not only was it an over time shift, but he was initially assigned to one truck, but switched to the truck he was in when he responded to that call. I didn’t think of this becoming anything and was just happy to have made a new friend, but the connection was MUCH stronger than I could have ever imagined. Since that day our connection became stronger and we feel so lucky to have found each other!
