The exact moment we met continues to elude both Daniel and I, and this very first day of the rest of our lives might go on to remain a mystery for all of time... I'll always tell the story of Homecoming 2010 during the mud tug-of-war competition. He was hard to miss - running around with that wild curly red hair pushed back into one of his bandanas, proudly shirtless and completely covered in red painted handprints - it was a sight to see. In all of the muddy, messy fun, this crazy guy managed to sneak into half of our team photos that day. I quickly learned just how much everyone loved this famous Tellez guy. The years went on, and our UA organizations all collided into one large group of friends, mainly based out of the ASUA office where we had free reign between classes. Daniel always bounced into the office with a big smile on his face and a story to tell, he could change a bad day into one of the best with a single comment. We grew to become close friends once we both joined the board for Bear Down Camp, and spent endless hours in the office planning all that summer. Days were spent working, evenings were spent with our small summer group of friends grabbing drinks while dodging the daily Tucson summer monsoon. One day after a meeting, Tellez decided to stay late in the office to work, and declared he was moving over to the other room to watch the DBacks game. I followed over quickly, thankful for a break. That was the night it all started. We might have watched one inning, the rest we spent chatting about life, our love of baseball, families, and dreams. We were shocked when we looked up and realized the post-game show had already ended, we had talked for over three hours. Still to this day he claims I was flirting all night, I claim I really just wanted to watch a baseball game... we may never know! A few nights later was the infamous night of the dodged kiss (a story to tell another time) and I happily agreed to "just a date." Six years later...
OK... Daniel here. I'll take care of this adventure. First step is location scouting, which didn’t take long: it was always going to be A Mountain. Our second date included sneaking up Sentinel Peak, sharing mimosas in Dollar Tree coconut cups, and looking at that beautiful Tucson skyline (as well as seeing who could spot more cop lights running around town). A Mountain is a great symbol for how our journey began and is no better place for us to start the next part of our journey together. I purchased her ring months in advance at the Gem and Mineral Show. While that was a wonderful decision, it was difficult to come up with a believable white lie for why I was randomly going down to Tucson on a Thursday. "Hey so my mom misses me" was the best I could come up with. She mildly believed me. Potential roadblock crossed. Final step was the execution. Spring was a busy time for us, so it was hard to find a weekend where we could both head to Tucson for the weekend. UA was predicted to have postseason baseball games (another relationship cornerstone) the weekend of June 4th, which was a perfect reason to get away. Even when those games were moved out of town, my team scrambled and put together an A+ plan. Early Sunday morning we went to go visit Groomsman Alex's newly-renovated house on the west side before having breakfast with my parents. I mentioned to Britt (another white lie coming) "Well my parents need to hang out at church for a bit longer, what do you want to do?" Alex comes in with the assist: "Hey I have a new camera and haven't been up A Mountain in a while. Wanna go?" She agrees, and I pretty sure we both thought “MUAHAHAHAHA” in our heads. We drive up the mountain and start walking around. I walk her up to the middle of the A, the spot of our second date, while Alex is taking random pictures. When ready, I yell down to him to take our picture. She turns her back on me to set her sunglasses down, and when she turns around… I’m down on one knee.
