The First Date

Sept 23, 2016

Like so many other twenty-somethings who finished college and moved back in with their parents, Cam & I met on tinder. He compared himself to Ryan Gosling; I asked him his blood type. Our first date was at Old Town Pizza and Tap House in Elk Grove. I dropped the tried and true pick up line, “I’ll have what he’s having.” Unfortunately, he was having a double IPA and it was, to this day, the worst beer I’ve ever had in my life. Cam’s ‘cool girl’ image of me died five minutes into our very first date. My reputation has yet to recover. Now, nearly nine years, hundreds of rounds of trivia, countless hikes, Kings games and costume parties later, we are SO incredibly excited to say ‘I do’ in front of the people we love more than anything. As Taylor Swift once said, “It’s been a long time coming.” And no, he still doesn’t know his blood type.

The Proposal

April 29th, 2023

After six years of dating, I proposed on Eagle Peak in Mount Diablo State Park. I had bought her ring months before (she picked it out) and was waiting for the right time to do it. Over the next few months, I’d catch her trying on the ring just to “make sure it still fits!” We had a picnic lunch on Eagle Peak and I planned to wait until we had the peak to ourselves to propose, but after a half hour, Jill was ready to head back down and a little confused as to why I wasn’t packing up. All I could think to say was not yet - I have a question. Nearly an hour after lunch, the other hikers finally left and I told her I loved her and asked her to marry me.
