A woman walks into a coffee shop, and a man holds open the door for her. They lock eyes, sparks fly, and the fate started to take its course. Before her coffee had cooled they were chatting (yes, Matt made the first move). Before long they had already traversed small talk and moved on to conversations on philosophy and existentialism. By midnight they had their first argument (which Amanda swears she won). When it became time to part ways, both left with a smile and no idea this was going to end up to be the love story of their lives.
In the desert, where people gather once a year to create a city fueled on self-expression, inclusion, community, and creativity, is a phenomena known as Burning Man. We shared a goal to make it to the Burn together, and spent over a year dreaming, planning, preparing -- though in true fashion the experience was nothing like we imagined. One night, surrounded by lights, music, and random things exploding, Matt proposed as we sat atop a giant butterfly art piece while quietly taking the beautiful chaos in. Ironically in such a life changing moment, Matt proposing felt like the most normal thing I had experienced all week, and was without a doubt the easiest 'yes' of my life. Burning Man is a wonderful playground for the mind and body, but an empty place without the love and companionship of my best friend.
After attempting to plan the wedding multiple times to meet the safety and security needs of our family and friends, we decided that 2020 is not the year for the big celebration we wanted to share with you all. As such, we have decided to elope on our date and reschedule our celebration for 2021. Thank you so much for your love and support. We will be sure to update with a 2021 date once we select one.
