How We Met

Her Perspective

Adam and I both attended George Mason University. Adam was a year above me. I'm pretty sure the first time I saw him was at a meeting for an event that we were both involved in during my freshman and his sophomore year. I don't remember talking to him during this meeting... I just remember that walked into the meeting late haha. We formally met in October 2010 during a speed dating/mixer event that the Delta's organized for students to get to know one another. I can't remember what we talked about during our 10 minutes of chatting. Strangely enough, we found a picture of us chatting in the corner during that event. Later that evening, a bunch of folks were hanging out at the campus late night spot, Ike's. Somehow, I found myself seated in a cramped booth beside no one other than Adam. I think our loved ones would describe us both individually as being deep thinkers, fascinated by different concepts and ideas. I can't remember the exact moment but back in college, I fell in love with Adam's mind and the way he expanded my horizon. Fast forward nearly a decade and our passionate conversations still get me. I cannot wait to marry this man!

How We Met

His Perspective

Looking back, it seems like I’ve known Jasmine forever. We’ve known each other for almost a decade and I’m so excited we are getting married. I honestly couldn’t have imagined a better scenario. I absolutely remember when I first met this beautiful, electric, down to earth young woman at a speed dating event in college. I remember seeing Jasmine again at a late night dinning spot on campus and us siting in a booth together as I tried my best to impress her with my smooth talk and self-assured tone. Back then, we went out on dates a few times, met each other in-between classes, and spent time together as if we were a couple. There was no doubt in my mind I had feelings for her and all of my close friends/roommates and fraternity brothers would ask me “Aye Adam, hows your girlfriend?” Ignoring the fact I’ve said multiple times that we were “just friends.” Still, despite my reluctance to label my feelings for Jasmine, we couldn’t stay away from each other and graduation was quickly approaching so I knew my feelings needed definitive action and I couldn’t let her go. Fast forward four years later, we start our long distance relationship knowing that we were both in love and strong enough to make it work. I’m so thankful and blessed to become a Husband and to make Jasmine my Wife. I thank God, her family, our mutual friends and each other for this day that I can’t wait for!

The Proposal

June 3rd, 2018

Well, I was 9 months pregnant and napped probably 2-3 times a day. That day, I was particularly tired. Adam and I had went out to eat the night before, we woke up and ate a big breakfast, and I pretty much lounged around the house for most of the day. In late afternoon, I was sleeping on our couch when Adam came downstairs and sat next to me. Nothing was out of our norm, I figured we were were going to figure out dinner plans for the evening. It was eerily quiet when Adam starts telling me how appreciative he is of all that we've accomplished as a couple and how he enjoys being with me. Again, still nothing too out of our norm since we have these conversations often. Moments later, I begin to question where the conversation was going when before I knew it, Adam was on his knee asking me to marry him. My initial response was, "But, I look a hot mess." Adam made the point that it doesn't matter what I look like or who was around but that it was our moment and that the shared space between he and I was the most important thing to him." It's just us, just me and you..." is what I remember him saying. Befuddled and unable to gather my words, my eyes began to well and my fingers began to shake. Adam replied, "You didn't answer the question." Ofcourse, I said YES. We folded into each other's arms and just kind of sat still in the silence. After gathering ourselves, we called our parents to share the news. In later conversation, Adam revealed the numerical date... 6 - 3... June 3rd. I always tell anyone who will listen how important numbers are to me. 63 is actually one of my favorite numbers and shows up significantly in my life. Strange enough, Adam was born at 6:36 AM while I was born weighing 6 lbs and 3 oz. It was only right for us to celebrate our beginning to forever on this special date.
