Dani and Shelby both worked at Home of The Innocents and met in early April of 2017, and quickly bonded over working with medically fragile children. Their first "not official first date" was at Hopcat where after too many stouts and porters Shelby told Dani that she wanted Dani in her life forever. They became inseparable and spent a lot of time exploring downtown Louisville and found a new favorite floral shop called Mahonia. Days were filled soaking up the sun at the waterfront, Cherokee park and Shelby's moms backyard pool. They spent a lot of time talking and getting to know each other better in quaint coffee shops like Please and Thank You, Quills, and Heine Bros. October 10, 2017 Shelby asked Dani to be her "official" girlfriend.
On a beautiful sunny day at Long Beach Island New Jersey, after working 12 hours, and driving 13, Dani gave Shelby the surprise of a lifetime. Shelby thought Dani was there to join her on her family vacation, but little did she know Dani would soon become part of the family. Dani wearing the same neon pink tee shirt as when they shared their first kiss, repeated what Shelby had told Dani on their first date. Surrounded by family, with sunflowers and rose petals sprinkled on the sand, she told Shelby that she knew how much Long Beach Island and her family meant to her and there was no better place to ask her the most important question. Through happy tears Shelby answered the easiest question she had ever been asked.
Cool ocean breeze, warm sand between toes and surrounded by a small group of friends Dani and Shelby exchanged personalized vows as the sun was setting. Married by their best friend Sara, the ceremony was a beautiful union of two souls. The covid pandemic made Dani and Shelby adjust their plans but hope to celebrate with everyone, just a year later.
