From all the planning and energy that went into our New Orleans wedding for May 2020, that was postponed to November 2020 and finally to February 2021. Its been quite a ride! We chose February 28th because it is 5 years from the day we met. Five years since our lives shifted into sharing our lives. We pulled the plug on New Orleans because of the whiplash of restrictions, its not the same as the New Orleans we wanted everyone to experience. Having our wedding close to home will allow our parents to be apart of our day and more fun to be had! We want to thank every one of you for the support, the constant love and riding this rollercoaster with us! Heres to #whiplashwedding #neverendingnuptials and always our #lovetobebayou
It was our third date, we went to StreetCar Merchants for some damn good fried chicken and donuts. We talked about music and our love of good food, places we’ve been and places we wanted to go. Grant told me about his trip to New Orleans a few years back, how awesome the music scene was and that we should go...let’s just book our tickets. And so we did. In Grants words “I just saw it as a make or break.” After booking our trip we realized we were just missing jazzfest, but that didn’t get us down, we researched places to go and where to eat! And the countdown began! We arrived in the Big Easy, staying in a rad Airbnb off Frenchmen street. We visited the Blue Nile, The spotted Cat, stumbled into an Art walk, and ate delicious creole food at 2am. First night Success! In the days to follow we walked all over the city, letting the music pull us in all directions. We ate bbq oysters in the rain, alligator cheesecake, amazing fried chicken, had a powdered sugar fight at Cafe Du Monde in the wee hours of the morning, saw insane musicians, I made Grant go to a creole cooking class...we were having a blast. And the rest is history... We hold New Orleans in our hearts, on that trip I knew Grant and I had something special going on. So it only feels right to go back to that special place to say “I do”.
It was the last day of an amazing Mammoth vacation with friends. We spent the morning sledding and playing in the snow before parting ways for the journey home. The Bullocks got a headstart while we decided to take our time and visit a few of our favorite spots around town. After taking the kids to the 11,000ft peak and treating Lauren to her sandwich spot in the village, we headed over to Twin Lakes. Lauren had only ever seen it in the summer and we thought it would be a killer view to take in before the long drive home. With Oliver asleep in the truck, we jumped out for a quick photo-op on the frozen lake. I asked Isla to take our picture, and while she was snapping away, I reached into my pocket for the sacred family heirloom (that her mom Nancy passed on to me quickly over the Christmas holiday), I turned to face her and got down on one knee, she asked excitedly “what the fuck are you doing!?” And I told her “you’re my wife now, deal with it.”
