We both attended NIU and knew of each other through Greek Life (sorority/fraternity), however didn’t officially meet until one night at a college party where we may or may not have gotten into a little bit of trouble. *Possible underage drinking ticket, sorry Parentals* After that moment, we spent countless nights that turn into mornings getting to know each other and playing “would you’d rather?” We discovered that we both have an extreme competitive side, have an obsession for eating sandwiches w/ chips inside, and unconditional love for our families, along with our personal favorite that we are both left-handed!
We started officially dating in 2012, in our 10 years together we have been blessed to say we have kept our promise to have a relationship built on friendship, trust, loyalty, compassion, and laugher even on the hardest days. We have become each other’s support system, pushed one another to be the best versions of ourselves, matured together as individuals, started new careers, traveled the world, and dealt with losing important figures in our lives. We’ve been fortunate to fulfill our dreams of becoming homeowners/fixer-uppers and fur parents to the best Doberman, Mac Miller de Gamez who we named after our favorite rapper, the great Mac Miller.
Anthony had been planning to propose for over a year, yes a whole year! While Leticia was working the night shift at the hospital, Anthony had this whole romantic setup planned with hundreds of rose petals and candles lit throughout our house with Always and Forever by Heatwave playing in the background a nod to the song we first slowed danced to in college. However, being Leticia she somehow intervened on his perfect plans by coming home WAY earlier than expected instead of 7 am, she arrived at midnight. Thank God for little sisters who helped execute the proposal set up in record time before Leticia waltz through the door. Sweaty palms, back, and forehead Anthony giving his speech while Leticia’s heart continuously raced with tears in her eyes all while Mac just wanted to run free. Leticia said “Yes, of course!” followed by “who is cleaning this all up?” referring to the rose petals all over her freshly cleaned floors and then closed with, “Oh my God! Do my parents know?”
