On what seemed like a regular, yet exciting night—my son’s football game and my 20th high school reunion—my life took a turn I never saw coming. As part of the planning committee, I had to be there early, so a proposal was the absolute last thing on my mind. The forecast called for rain, which meant that everything, including what would become one of the most unforgettable moments of my life, had to be adjusted. At halftime, my friends—the infamous “trio”—distracted me with a trip to the concession stand. Clueless, I followed along, thinking nothing of it. We returned to our seats, just in time to watch my son’s team dominate the field. Not long after, my friends insisted we get up again to mingle with old classmates. Annoyed but obliging, I made small talk before finally heading back to my seat. But once again, my friends wanted to go down the stairs. At this point, my patience was wearing thin. “For what, Chante?” I asked, irritation creeping into my voice. “Just come on,” she said. Rolling my eyes, I followed, assuming they just wanted to be in the mix—it was our high school reunion, after all. But as I stepped down the bleachers, I saw a group of people gathered, phones up, recording. Still, nothing clicked. I scanned the crowd, and then—wait a minute—why was my son, Jayden, standing there? He was supposed to be on the field. Before I could fully process it, Kevon grabbed my arm. “We are all here to celebrate Jayden,” he said. Even then, it still didn’t register. “But really,” he continued, “we are here because everyone knows how much I love you.” And then—it hit me. My heart raced as he dropped to one knee, surrounded by our family, friends, and the echoes of a stadium filled with memories. Tears welled up in my eyes. The moment I realized what was happening, it was already too late—my emotions took over. And the rest? Just go watch the video, (link below)… Tears. And more tears. https://youtube.com/shorts/OGZlmkCT3GE?si=RDED0dIOlCGrZqLz
