It was a hot mid-August night during Butler orientation week. Parker had decided to attend the social event on night two, which just happened to be Target Takeover. Now, if you know me then you know that I love Target so there was no way I was missing this event. We both arrive on separate busses, and I can’t believe that Parker didn’t immediately leave. It was very loud and overwhelming. Nevertheless, I went shopping! I was on the hunt for a blanket, again if you know me… it makes sense. I turned down the next aisle, and there he was. Now it wasn’t love at first sight, but I happened to be shopping with a mutual friend of ours, and so Parker joined our group. We quickly checked out and went back to the dorms. For the next two months we became friends. We played a lot of Uno and Euchre, as much as Parker would like to forget the Euchre part, and he let me play him the entire Hamilton musical over the course of two nights. I think musicals are our thing because we both had the moment where we knew we had feelings for the other while watching Moana. Now, that is a whole other story for a different time. We started to do everything together. We ate every meal together and watched movies and played games after classes every night with our friends. Slowly Parker and I started to stay up late after our friends went to bed and hang out as just the two of us. By the end of October I think we both knew. So come November first, he finally asked me to be his girlfriend. It didn’t come without a condition though. We both had to promise to tell the other everything, no secrets. And to make sure that we kept our promises. We built our foundation on friendship, communication and a commitment to trust one another with anything and everything. I wouldn’t trade Parker for anything in the world and I’m so glad that he decided to venture out of his comfort zone for one night so that we could meet.
