The day was Sunday April 16th, 2017, when Amanda walked into the 77th Street Police Station when it was John's first day at the desk. Amanda had just left from visiting her Abuela at the Inglewood Park Cemetery when she told her parents if she can go to the local LAPD station to request a ride along because she was in the hiring process with the LAPD. Amanda had maybe been to LA a handful of times but never to South Central but she googled the nearest station to the cemetery and it was 77th. Her parents drove her to 77th and dropped her off to request the ride along. As she walked into the station, John asked her what he could help her with. She told him how she was in the process and wanted a ride along so he gave her the paperwork to fill out. He asked her where she was from because she did not look like she belonged anywhere near South Central. John's TO "Senior" was at the desk with John and he kept telling John to give me some tips about the Academy. Senior then told John that he should take her to the academy to jump the wall since that's what she was concerned with. Senior told John to give her his number and John responded nervously with "Sir she probably has a boyfriend" and Amanda told him that she didn't. John was very nervous and he kept mumbling and was red but he gave Amanda his number and she texted him a few hours later. After a few weeks of texting non-stop and hours of facetime calls, they finally went out together and fell in love instantly.

It was on Monday October 9th, 2017 that John proposed to Amanda. John told Amanda that he wanted to take her out on a date and told her to wear something nice because they were going to go somewhere nice. They drove to Downtown LA and went to the Brazilian restaurant "Fogo de Chao". They enjoyed a nice dinner along with a bottle of wine. After dinner, John took Amanda to the new upscale bar at the Intercontinental Hotel called Spire 73. It was an open air bar on the 73rd floor of the hotel with amazing views of the city. It was very romantic and they had an area to themselves overlooking the city. John was trying very hard to act normal but he was very nervous. He was trying to figure out the right time to get down on one knee which also included purposely dropping his phone and in his mind he was going to get down on one knee to pick it up and propose but Amanda picked up his phone before he could get it. They then started talking about the US Bank Tower and how tall it is and Amanda kept saying it was at a certain location in the city and John told her that it wasn't and that it was actually behind her. Amanda looked behind her and when she turned back around, John was down on one knee with a ring. John told her how much he loves her and how much she has changed his life and asked her to be his wife and she said YES!
