It all started on a fun summer night in 2013, at a nightclub called OK Corral. I (Isela) spotted a tall, shy guy standing by the bar — and in true “me” fashion, I asked him for a picture. We took our picture and he asked me to dance. What I didn’t know was that moment would spark the beginning of our forever. After a few weekends of dancing, Ivan added me on Facebook (very 2013 of him), slid into my DMs, and asked me to dinner — and just like that, our story began. Our first date was at Razzoos' restaurant, a booth at the very front. My first impression of him? So tall, so sweet, and a little shy — but in the most endearing way. His first impression of me? He says I was outgoing with a beautiful big smile and jokes that I could hold a 20-minute conversation about clouds. (He’s not wrong.) We started dating just as I was heading off to college at TCU, and Ivan supported me every step of the way. He opened my world to traveling — our first trip was to Cancun in 2014, and since then, we’ve explored Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, and several states in the U.S. He took me to New York for Christmas twice — and if you know Ivan, you know how much he hates the cold — but he did it just for me. We’ve grown up together. We’ve bought a home, welcomed our beautiful baby, and built a life full of laughter, inside jokes, and memories we’ll never forget. And then came 2021 — a day we’ll always remember. We had just closed on our first home, and as we stepped inside, we set up our Christmas tree and opened a bottle of wine to celebrate. I brought wine glasses (because priorities), and then, in the soft glow of the tree lights, Ivan got down on one knee. We both cried, and he spoke the sweetest words for 15 whole minutes. It was everything. I love that we are each other's best friend. We can tell each other anything — no filter, no fear. He’s the calm to my chaos, the steady to my storm, and the biggest believer in me. He tells me he loves how driven I am, how I make him smile, and how I’m always planning something fun for us. And I love that we still laugh, still dance, and still choose each other — every single day.
