This new chapter began Wednesday December 31st. To Belle this was only a fancy dinner outing for her and I to celebrate the new year we would start as boyfriend and girlfriend, and party with family afterwards. But little did she know that I and our families had a very different plan for the evening. (Belle* from my perspective I thought he would’ve proposed sooner. Maybe Christmas Eve or Christmas Day so I had no idea!) A few weeks before Jenny, my mom, and I went to Beall’s Jewelers and spent hours choosing the perfect engagement ring. A week before, I picked up the ring and showed it off to her parents and mine. This was a hard secret to keep but I knew in the end it would be worth it all! On the day of, I came to the Law house and Belle ran upstairs to finish her hair and outfit before we left, (Bella* we were gone that morning to pick up Josh’s new car! ) while she was upstairs I secretly finalized some plans with Jenny about this special evening. When Belle came down, we headed off to dinner!Ayns and Holden came along too. Belle and I were excited for dinner together but I was also nervous because of what we were gonna pull off tonight! (Belle* I was told that we were going to have a New years at the Steurer’s) We drove to Janesville Wisconsin and ate at Olive Garden. (Belle* my choice and one of my favorite restaurants! We don’t get to do often so it was so fun) We had a wonderful dinner together and after we did some shopping at a nearby clothing store. I tried to stall as long as possible before going home, because I wanted to give the family plenty of time to set up our surprise for Belle. But I could only stall for so long before Belle got suspicious. So with that, we headed to home! (After a quick heads-up to Jenny, that I hid excellently I might add) My plan was to propose to Belle outside the Laws house. But as we were driving back the wind started picking up, which worried me and made me even more nervous! We turned onto her home road and as we were pulling into the driveway Holden (who had no idea) saw some lights on in the yard and said “when did we hang Christmas lights in the yard?” Belle was now curious and as we drove down the driveway she began to realize what was about to happen and she couldn’t help but cry tears of happiness. (Belle* I cried so hard. Happy tears! I thought “so this is how an engagement will be for me! So so pretty!”) I parked the car and walked around to Belles’ door, opened it and offered her my hand. (Belle* I wanted to take it slow and take it all in.) We walked down a pathway lit with candles and fairy lights. Halfway down the path Elijah flipped the switch and the willow trees were illuminated with hanging lights! Belle gave a gasp and so did I because of how beautiful it looked. (Belle* I was so shocked! It was breathtaking) Belle started crying again because she couldn’t believe this day was finally here and she was so happy. We walked to a beautiful nook beneath the willow trees. There was a blanket on the ground, decorated pine trees as a backdrop and table that held THE ring I was going to give her. We stopped and stood in the middle of the blanket, and I said a few things that I had prepared ahead of time and then I grabbed the ring box off of its beautiful pedestal and got down on one knee and look Belle in the eyes and said… “Isabella Joy Law there is no one else I would rather spend the rest of my life with but you, will you Marry Me?” And she said “yes, I WILL marry YOU!” I put the ring on her finger and we hugged and cried and were the happiest we’ve ever been. What a wonderful way to “ring” in the New Year! We thank the Lord for this Beautiful Relationship that He had started between us. That he has grown into our upcoming marriage! We pray that the Lord would bless us and keep us and that he may be the center of our soon to be marriage and grow us in grace and love for Him and each other.
