We first crossed paths in the pediatric hospital medicine work room on Cal’s first official day of work as a pediatric resident. After borrowing Cal’s pen for the day and then losing it, Isabella bought Cal a fancy pen that he briefly cherished before permanently misplacing. A workplace friendship blossomed as they made a mutual connection over shared faith and learned that they went to the same church in Houston. By the end of the month, Isabella invited Cal to her Bible study small group, and they bonded over an opportunity to share their faith journeys with each other. After only one casual hangout, Cal asked Isabella out on their first date to a local Latin cuisine. It was not long after this that he asked her to be his girlfriend. The months that followed included bonding with Isabella’s cats Sushi and Peanut, Isabella baking Cal a coconut cake for his birthday, trying their hands at pottery on Isabella’s birthday, a trip to the farm in Woodville to meet Cal’s family, grilling out with Isabella’s parents, a fishing trip with Mr. Orozco, and a visit to Dallas over the Christmas break with Isabella’s friends and family. At the end of December, Cal proposed at Hermann Park and Isabella said yes! We cannot wait to celebrate this new and exciting chapter in our life together with all our favorite people!
