Devan was working as a delivery driver for H-E-B, and I was working as the support for the drivers. One afternoon, H-E-B held a partner appreciation BBQ for the entire Home Delivery Department. We both attended the BBQ and saw each other from across the room. He invited me to hangout with him and his friends a few nights later at Top Golf. After we finished golfing at the end of the night, we exchanged Snapchats. He told me to let him know when I got home safe that night. I did and then went to sleep. The next day we were talking all day, and never stopped, to this day.
I was sitting outside around the fire-pit with my family in January when I told them I wanted to propose to Isabel. They gave me several different ideas on how to propose, and Roland came up with the idea to propose at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. After several months of planning, it was time to buy a ring. The perfect opportunity arised when Isabel was in Galveston for her sister's Bachelorette weekend. During that weekend, my mom and I went to the jewelry store and found the perfect ring. Fast forward to my birthday weekend (end of July), we headed up to Dallas to celebrate my birthday with both our families. Isabel had no clue what was about to happen. We began our tour of the stadium, and as the tour went on, I felt more and more nervous. When we stepped onto the field, I knew it was just moments away. Everyone was lining up to take their pictures on the star on the 50-yd line. Before I knew it, it was our turn for pictures. As she started to walk away, I grabbed her hand, turned her around, and got down on one knee to ask her to be my wife. She kept saying "Are you serious" several times, until she finally said YES!
Devan wanted to go to Dallas and the casino for his birthday. He wanted to tour AT&T Stadium and just spend time with our family. I was determined to make his birthday special for him. The month leading up to his birthday, I was stressing trying to figure out what he wanted to do, where he wanted to eat for dinner, etc. We make it to Dallas, settle in, and head to a birthday party for our cousin Matthew. The next day was our stadium tour. We made plans for everyone to arrive at the same time. There was an event at the stadium later that afternoon, so our tour had to start earlier than tours normally start. This meant that the stadium was pretty empty! We went through the locker rooms and press conference room, everyone was having a great time taking lots of pictures! We got onto the field, and everyone was mesmerized, including myself! I had never seen the stadium that empty before. Everyone was taking pictures on the 50-yd line star, and I didn't think anything of it. This was completely normal! It was our turn to pose for pictures, and all of a sudden, a WALL of 30 cameras were pointed at us. I remember thinking "Oh it's his birthday, everyone is taking pictures of the birthday boy." I started to walk off because I thought we were finished and the next group of people would go take theirs. Devan took my hand and gently pulled me back. I turned around, very confused. He pulled out a box and got down on one knee. I immediately started crying and all that I could get out was "Are you serious?!" about 10 times. When I finally realized it was real, he said "Will you marry me?" Without hesitation, I SAID YES!!
