On June 24, 2010, Sam's brother James set him up with his friend Isabel for a double date at Loco's Grill & Pub after work. Sam arrived early and ordered a drink to loosen up, while Isabel showed up late. They had some fun conversation, then Isabel took a pair of dice out from her purse to play some drinking games - Sam had no idea what he was blindly walking into! They planned many more dates soon afterwards, including shooting fireworks at Panama City Beach, Taco Bell, the Georgia Aquarium, and lots of karaoke nights!

Sam and Isabel traveled with their chihuahua, Simba, to Asheville, NC for a getaway weekend. Sam insisted on going on a hike, which Isabel thought was strangely out of character for him to ask! But she took advantage of this rare opportunity and agreed. They drove up the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and stopped at the Craggy Pinnacle to walk up to the summit. It started to rain, but Sam was determined to pop the question no matter what! At the top of the trail, while overlooking the lush trees blanketing the Blue Ridge Mountains, with loyal Simba by his side, Sam bent the knee and asked Isabel to marry him. She said yes!
