On December 28, 2022, just as Emily was contemplating throwing her phone in the ocean and never using a dating app again, she happened upon Brandon's Hinge profile. Charmed by a super cute photo of Brandon playing with his friend Sara's super cute dog, Soba, Emily scrolled through to find out more. Upon learning that he was both Jewish and a film buff, Emily sent Brandon a message asking him how his Jewish Christmas of Chinese food and movies had been. On January 2, 2023, Brandon opened Hinge and discovered Emily's message, to which he sent a reply about the absurd wait-times of getting Chinese on Christmas amongst the large Jewish community in Livingston, NJ, and how much he enjoyed the visual beauty of Avatar: The Way of Water. They haven't stopped talking ever since. Sometimes, it’s a problem. Can you get them to stop talking? Their first date was canceled when Brandon came down with COVID. Emily worried he might be blowing her off, but they instead had a virtual Zoom date that flew by. On February 5, 2023, they had their first in-person date--an exhibit on the history of Jewish delis at the New York Historical Society, followed by a walk along Central Park and a Jewish deli-themed meal at Friedman's. After spending eight hours together discussing life and future plans, Brandon and Emily knew they'd each found their person. They parted ways with a first kiss in the middle of the chaos of Penn Station, and Emily immediately texted her friend (and matron of honor) Alanna, declaring: "I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THAT WAS THE BEST DATE I HAVE EVER BEEN ON." Every seemingly unbelievable romcom cliché proved to be true, and Brandon and Emily were already falling in love. They were quick to delete Hinge from their phones, and have never looked back. By the end of February, Brandon and Emily were officially a couple. And by April, they went on their first trip together. Emily had a speaking engagement in Indianapolis, where Brandon planned to join her. The weekend before was his birthday, and by the end of their time celebrating, they both found themselves wanting to say "I love you." Brandon called Emily to tell her this, but they decided to wait to say it to each other in Indianapolis. And so they did. Their relationship bloomed as Brandon made weekend visits to Emily's apartment in Hell's Kitchen, and Emily spent time with Brandon exploring his favorite places in New Jersey. In January 2024, Emily, a lifelong New Yorker who can't quite let go of her New York superiority complex, became a Jersey girl for love and moved in with Brandon to a lovely apartment on the Hudson River. She loves New Jersey, or so Brandon likes to tell people, whether she admits it or not. On May 18, 2024, when they were fully settled into their cozy life together, Brandon proposed to Emily on the roof of their building, where the NYC skyline, including Emily's previous apartment, was in full view. He planned the perfect proposal, creating a series of custom Connections puzzles about their relationship for Emily to solve, followed by a custom Wordle with the solution "MarryMe." Of course, Emily said "YES!" This may sound like a fairytale romance, and in many ways it has been. But Brandon and Emily have also navigated rough waters as a team, including each other’s medical challenges, strengthening their commitment and partnership. Whatever the journey ahead may hold, they are both so thrilled to be in it together with their family and friends by their sides. Brandon and Emily’s love grew in apartment #1019 (Emily’s old place), and they will be wed on 10/19. On October 19, 2025, Bremily (yes, they fully embrace this couple name) will share their vows surrounded by love at the Montclair Art Museum--significant because their first date was at a museum, Emily is passionate about working with museums to implement accessibility, and Brandon grew up spending time in Montclair. They truly cannot wait to start a new chapter of forever together.
