LOVE STORY: NEWTON & WOELINAM (NEWLINAM 2026)

From humble beginnings to a shared future, our journey is a testament to patience, ambition, and an unbreakable bond.

Some say that the greatest stories begin with a grand gesture. Ours started on December 4, 2020, with simple words across a digital void: “Happy birthday, Woelinam.” A small gesture that unknowingly planted the seed of something beautiful. After that moment, silence grew between us. Days passed with no calls or messages, as life moved on. Yet, some connections never fade. Newton’s curiosity lingered about Woelinam, and he asked his cousin, who once knew her, for more details. And that step changed everything. Newton reached out again with renewed interest. The conversation didn’t end after one message. It flowed naturally, turning polite acknowledgment into laughter, late-night talks, shared dreams, and a connection as natural as breathing. At the same time, we faced a new challenge: distance stood between us. Newton was in Cape Coast, serving as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Cape Coast, while Woelinam was in Akatsi, pursuing her teacher training at the Akatsi College of Education. Newton didn’t know it then, and neither did Woelinam. Still, that single, heartfelt birthday wish was the spark that illuminated our darkest days and eventually kindled a love that colored every moment afterward. And then came a moment we will never forget. On July 9 2021, we finally made time to meet and talk in person. What had started as messages and distant conversations became real, warm, and undeniable. In that meeting, something deeper was confirmed; this was more than just a connection; it was the beginning of a beautiful journey together. We visited families, walked the shores of Woe Beach, and made many memories. From that point onward, everything between us changed. Our love has grown stronger, deeper, and more intentional. The distance no longer felt like a barrier but a bridge that strengthened our bond. Communication became consistent; we never went a single day without hearing from each other. Each conversation brought us closer, building trust, friendship, and love for one another. Soon, the distance became unbearable. Missing each other’s presence grew stronger by the day, and we knew we had to see each other again. So, we made plans to meet in Adidome, where Woelinam lived, simply because we couldn’t stand being apart for too long. The foundation and fire of the early days were a beautiful whirlwind of discovery. Like any great love, ours wasn’t without its “ups and downs.” On February 14 2022, our first disagreement set in. It could have created distance, but instead, it revealed the strength of our love. We chose understanding over pride, communication over silence, and quickly resolved it, refusing to let anything come between us. However, a greater challenge soon followed in June 2022. This time, it was intense. Emotions ran high, words grew few, and communication slowly drifted on both sides. The connection that once felt so strong began to weaken, and for a moment, it felt as though the bond we had built was breaking. Silence returned, but this time, it carried weight. Yet, even in that difficult season, our story did not end there. Because true love is not just about the good moments; it is about holding on, even when things feel like they are falling apart. We faced challenges and disagreements that tested and sharpened our understanding of each other. But through every storm, one thing remained constant: we chose each other. From a simple birthday message to a lifetime of mornings, our journey showcases a love that persists against all odds. On June 6, 2026, we will stand before God, family, and friends to affirm a promise that has withstood time and distance. We’re grateful for your presence as we celebrate Newton and Woelinam’s love, which has endured storms and silence, sealing our promise forever. As 1 Corinthians 13:7 says, love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things!
