We intend to have the ceremony outdoors, unless the weather doesn't allow it. It may be a little chilly so please bring a jacket to keep warm during our ceremony. The reception will be indoors.

Question

Nigerian Traditions

Answer

In Nigerian culture, one of the most joyful traditions is spraying. During the celebration, family and friends will come forward while we’re dancing and place bills on us as a way of honoring, blessing, and celebrating our union. It’s a lively, fun moment filled with music and movement, and it symbolizes showering the couple with good fortune and prosperity. This is similar to the dollar dance in American culture. Don’t be shy as everyone is welcome to join in the fun! Our wedding will be a beautiful blend of styles. You’ll see family and friends wearing traditional Nigerian attire. They are bright, colorful fabrics, elegant styles, and headwraps that reflect our culture and heritage. Alongside these, we’ll also have the classic American wedding look to celebrate both of our backgrounds. Food is an essential part of Nigerian celebrations, and we can’t wait to share it with you! Expect to see favorites like Nigerian jollof rice, puff-puff, pounded yam and egusi soup, Nigerian salad, small chops and many more alongside American classics and comfort foods. You’re all welcome to trying any of the meals you wish to eat!
