Salt Lake City's farmer's market has a delightful winter edition held in the historic Rio Grande building. There are all kinds of gems sold at the market from produce and warm beverages to hand-made ceramics and jewelry. There are also several food trucks on site to keep you fueled. The market will take place from 10am-2pm the Saturday of the wedding. The Rio Grande building is just a 10-minute walk from the reserved block at Hyatt Place hotel and The Gateway.
A few-minute walk from the reserved block at Hyatt Place hotel, the Gateway was originally built for the 2002 SLC Olympics and continues to grow and evolve. There are several restaurants and shops, a movie theater, and even the Clark Planetarium and Discovery Gateway Children's Museum for the kiddos! We recommend checking out La Barba coffee and strolling through the fire pits and seating areas. There is reasonably priced underground parking (free for the first hour).
If you're a bookworm (like Isaac), you could get lost in here for hours. Grab a coffee from the attached cafe, and peruse the many typical and antique offerings. Isaac can't make it in and out of here without buying at least 2-3 books!
Formerly a state-of-the-art trolley car depot in the '20s, Trolley Square is now an indoor (and partly outdoor) retail area. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and worth a visit to see an old model of a trolley car as well as a charming used bookstore (Weller Book Works), restaurants, and a variety of mainstream and unique shops.
This park has a perimeter walking path, tall trees lining the middle, a lake on the south side, and a playground and train ride for the kids. There's also usually a few pay-to-ride scooters for a fun ride without street traffic. You might recognize a few spots from the photos on this site. ;)
This is a charming little neighborhood with lots of eateries and shops. We recommend Pizza Nono (their GF crust is amazing if you need!), East Liberty Tap House, Mazza for middle eastern cuisine, Salt & Honey store, and Dolcetti Gelato.
Right across the street from Liberty Park, this is a pay-at-the-counter restaurant featuring healthy bowls and smoothies with lots of gluten-free and vegan options. We recommend the 900S location for easier parking!
A historic train car converted into a restaurant, this brunch spot is a Utah legacy up the beautiful Emigration Canyon. It’s also just an 8-minute drive from wedding venue, Red Butte Garden, and a 6-minute drive from the Hampton Inn-Foothill hotel.
Yes, the ski lifts are still open this time of year! And they're plenty snowy. If you have the time, this resort is a beautiful, 50-minute drive from SLC. We love it for its great mix of beginner and advanced runs and old-world charm. It's also where Isaac taught Laura his expert skiing ways. :) But this is just one ski option! We also love Solitude Mountain Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon for its laid-back vibe, and Deer Valley Resort in Park City for its ultra-classy atmosphere.
