Paul FitzSimmons likes to take credit for "introducing" Emily to Isaac by pointing out his smooth jumper and quick feet at a Gustavus Adolphus JV basketball game in December, 2011. Isaac swears he and Emily briefly met that same fall. Emily is pretty sure that whenever it was, she was the first to strike up the conversation. In truth, Isaac and Emily met when they both got stuck with the last available volunteer slot for Special Olympics Basketball reffing (8 AM on Sunday morning) in February 2012. Buses with the athletes got stuck in a snowstorm and were over an hour late. They passed the time talking about their families, friends, common interests and crazy uncles. Then and because the world works in mysterious ways, they didn't have the chance to talk to each other again for over a year. But once they did, the rest was history.
