How we met

Isaac and Alex met at their church through a shared passion for music. Isaac’s Story: I first heard about Alex through my friend Madeline, who mentioned that Alex wanted to get involved with the worship team. My honest first thought was that I was not going to ask this girl out. She was the first new addition to the team since I had started leading it, and I did not want anything to look like I was using the team as a way to get dates. As I got to know Alex, something about her immediately stood out. She was fun, full of energy, and always willing to encourage others. She had a natural ability to go with the flow, and I quickly learned just how adventurous she was when she joined me for the polar plunge on New Year’s Day 2025. I began to suspect she might be interested in me when she copied my dance moves for several hours at a masquerade party. She still denies this with confidence. When Alex told me she was looking to join a community group, I suggested she join mine. I checked with my co leader Kate to make sure it would be all right and added a disclaimer. I told Kate that I had a feeling I might start dating this girl very soon. My plan was to ask Alex out after her first night at small group, but Charleston had other ideas. The city received its biggest snowfall in five years, which shut everything down. Instead of asking her in person, I called her. We decided to have a virtual date the next day since we were both snowed in. The day after that, I decided to brave the icy roads and go to Alex’s house for our first real date. She made steaks, and I immediately thought that this girl was a keeper. We tried to play Rummikub, but we barely made it through the first round because we could not stop talking. The next night we went out again, this time to Rancho Lewis. Three dates in three days set a fast pace, and we did our best to continue that rhythm over the next month. Three weeks later, on Valentine’s Day, I asked Alex to be my girlfriend. I knew very soon that I wanted to marry Alex. It was not a single lightbulb moment. Instead, it was more like the gentle warmth of the sun on a cool November morning. It rose slowly, brought light and color to everything around me, and felt natural, steady, and inevitable. Being together felt right, and being apart began to feel strange. Alex brings warmth and genuine care into every space she enters. She loves deeply and often puts the needs of others before her own. It is an incredible privilege to call her my future wife, and I truly cannot imagine my life without her. Here is to the rest of our lives together. Alex's Story: I first met Isaac one Wednesday night at Citadel Square through my friend Madeline when I wanted to join the young adult worship team. After that night we kept running into each other at different events, and I found myself going to almost every young adults outing, secretly hoping he would be there. Not long after that, some of our friends hosted a New Years party. I spent way too much time picking the perfect outfit because I knew Isaac would be there. I tried so hard to play it cool while getting to know him more. At one point during the party he thought I was copying his dance moves, but the truth was that I was genuinely trying to keep up. Finally, during the January snowstorm, Isaac asked me on a date over the phone. The first time he called I got nervous and hung up so I could take a moment to breathe, then I called him right back. For our first date I decided to be bold and cook him a steak dinner. I was blown away by how similar we were, and that night I told my mom and several of my friends that he was the one. From that moment on we were inseparable and it did not take long for us to fall in love. Isaac asked me to marry him on September 7 and it was the easiest yes of my life. Can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together!
