Irvin and I used to work together at Starbucks. We were both working our way through college. My first day working there, while I was going through the tour of the store with the manager, I spotted Irv on the register greeting a customer - I said to myself: "this guy looks familiar" but I couldn't place where I've seen him before. Once the manager and I made it over to where Irvin was standing, he abruptly turned around to us (cut my manager off mid-sentence) and said: "where do I know you from?" --- then it dawned on me that I've seen and met him before through a mutual friend of ours. After I told him where I may have known him from, he responded: "oh ok" and then went back to his register, tending to customers --- no hello, no welcome to the store, etc. - RUDE! LOL. Very cliche but I guess from there was history! :) We remained friends for a very long time prior to us dating. It wasn't until we went on a group trip to Cabo San Lucas, MX that we officially became boyfriend and girlfriend. So Cabo is a place we both hold very dear to our hearts. We made our relationship official on January 15, 2011 in Cabo.
After 7 years of dating....(yes, I counted! lol) Irvin proposed to me on May 6, 2018 in front of 33 of our closest family and friends at the restaurant Sofrito. Up until the engagement, I was dropping MAJOR hints because homeboy was on the clock! LOL. Although, I was dropping so many hints, this proposal took me by complete surprise. I was initially told that we were going to dinner to celebrate his step father's birthday. When I think about the chain of events for that day, I laugh because earlier in the day - I absolutely told Irvin that I was not going because I was too tired and just didn't feel up to going out that night and I needed to pack. I had so much to do in preparation for the upcoming week since my 30th birthday was approaching (5/15) and we were flying out to Ibiza and then Barcelona with all of our friends and family to celebrate. When Irvin, my father and I walked into the restaurant, a table of 33 people jumped up and yelled surprise and they were all smiling in our direction. I was sooooo confused because his stepdad was there as well and it was his birthday so I was baffled as to why they were yelling surprise to me?! LOL..... so once I wrapped my head around this dinner being for me - I chalked this up to being apart of my 30th birthday celebrations, which included the friends and family we were planning to travel with, in a couple days + friends and family who couldn't make the trip. Towards the end of the night, Irvin started asking everyone to step outside for a group picture because he liked the view from their patio area.
We were positioned to take a group picture - obviously Irvin and I in the center, then I noticed it turned into Irvin and I taking pictures together. Irvin began giving a speech thanking everyone for coming out to celebrate me and how I'm so very loved and he started getting super mushy (which is very unlike him!) and all I could think to myself was: "hmmm, where is he going with this? He's had too much to drink tonight" LOL. He then got on one knee and asked me to marry him. SHOCKED! My hair wasn't done, eyebrows weren't done...luckily my best friend convinced me to get my nails done earlier that day! This proposal took me completely off guard since I was anticipating this happening while we were in Spain on vacation. Fooled me! So, that's the story of our engagement!
