We met at New Creation Church through mutual friends. After going to the same church for two years and never meeting each other, we finally were introduced the Saturday before Joseph's senior year of college. After church, we had lunch at the same table but didn't talk! Our friends dropped Joseph off at his apartment and invited us for food and games later that night. Irma was already at the gathering when Joseph came in her first words were “are you ready to lose”. We talked all afternoon and played the board game Catan where Joseph did in fact not lose but win by a mile. While we were talking Joseph promised to make Irma a vegan pineapple upside-down cheesecake for her birthday. So the seeds were sown for a beautiful relationship.
Joseph and I took a trip to Disney World, on Monday, August 1, we visited the Magic Kingdom. After a wonderful day of exploring and riding rides, it started raining around 8 pm and we got completely flooded with the wonderful Florida rains. It was raining so hard, that people were running out of Disney to get out of the rain. As we waited for the rain to stop, I asked Joseph if we could leave because I was so cold but, Joseph said we were going to wait for the fireworks show we'd been excited for all day. We waited until about 11 pm to see if there would be the promised firework show, but there was not and we were so disappointed. At this time Joseph and I were sitting on a little white bench right next to the Disney Castle when Joseph started holding my hand and acting really nervous. He hugged me and then got on his knees, kneeling in front of me he pulled out a medium size box (too large to be holding a ring) then he proceeded to tell me that he loved me so much and that he wanted to ask me something. When I heard him say, that he needed to ask me something I freaked out! Joseph's question to me was, "Do you want to be the sparkle for the rest of my life?", then he opened the box and pull out a smaller box with a beautiful ring! I said, "YES!!!!". The crowd of people that were walking by started cheering and clapping for us! After I cried for like 10 minutes, we started walking to the exit, this couple approached us. The couple asked if we had just gotten engaged, between tears I told her, yes, and she told me that she saw from afar that Joseph had gotten down on a knee, and then realized no one was recording so she pulled out her phone and started recording a video. I was so shocked/happy so I threw my arms around her and hugged her. I was so grateful for her, I believe it was God's plan to impress on this random lady's heart to record for us so that I could have a video of this beautiful memory. All and all this truly was the most magical night of my life.
