Amanda and Jamie met for the first time during the fall of 2008 when they were both students at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As luck would have it, they both lived in the same dorm that year. Amanda was a junior, excited to leave the next semester to study abroad in Italy. Jamie was a freshman and playing on UNC's Lacrosse team. Amanda worked at the front desk of the dorm as an assistant and often saw Jamie in the building. Jamie thought she was pretty, but definitely out of his league. Amanda thought he was super cute, and couldn't understand why he hadn't asked her out. Clearly she had been flirting with him! Finally, before Thanksgiving break that year, Amanda decided to take matters into her own hands. She worked up the nerve and asked him out to a UNC basketball game. He said yes and later that week they headed down the hill to the Dean Dome. Fast forward to the spring of 2016 when Jamie and Amanda were living in Athens, Georgia. Jamie was pursuing a master's degree in Historic Preservation at UGA and Amanda was working as a home health occupational therapist. Amanda had recently been accepted to pursue her PhD at UNC. Being faithful Tarheels, that March the two made a trip to Chapel Hill to watch the men's basketball team play in the ACC tournament. While walking around UNC's campus after watching the Tarheels win, Jamie stopped in front of a large pine tree in Coker Arboretum and asked Amanda to marry him. She said yes! After almost nine years together, and having called numerous places home, they are both students again at UNC pursuing graduate degrees and finally tying the knot in the Tarheel state!
