OUR LOVE STORY

In early 2014, before dating apps were what they are today, Perry & Ilyssa were both members of the dating site JDate. Perry was in his final year at Brooklyn Law School while Ilyssa was working in the fashion industry in NYC. Both were highly skeptical of JDate, though family and friends claimed really it worked. Ilyssa saw Perry’s profile and reached out (a decision she still likes to remind Perry of), and the two spoke for about a month before deciding to meet in person. On January 28, 2014, Perry & Ilyssa met at Bistango in Murray Hill for a dinner date. Of course, Ilyssa was 20 minutes late. Still, Perry stuck around, just in case she was worth the wait. The two enjoyed each other’s company and sparked each other’s interest. They continued to go on dates around New York City, splitting their time between Manhattan and Brooklyn. Ilyssa learned about Perry’s passion for sports early on (she couldn't really avoid it). In March, he traveled on a guys trip to Raleigh, North Carolina, to cheer on his alma mater THE George Washington University in the NCAA Tournament. Perry was under the weather when he left, but with sheer determination, he drove down for the game. Unfortunately, he returned home with pneumonia. Ilyssa stood by Perry’s side while he recovered in the hospital, and this brought them even closer together. This was the moment they knew it was true love. Ilyssa & Perry love exploring the world together, having traveled to Paris, Nice, London, Amsterdam, Banff, and more. They love spending time with each other’s families in NJ and going out with friends. They also love quiet days in their Upper East Side apartment, hanging out and doing LITERALLY nothing or binge-watching shows together. They both love Italian food (but really who doesn’t), although they don’t agree on many other foods (they definitely won't be having a fruit tart for a wedding cake, despite what Ilyssa may want - tuna sandwiches also won't be on the menu, despite what Perry may want).

THE PROPOSAL

On Wednesday, November 14th, 2018, Ilyssa had "plans" with her friend Jenn to attend an event at a local Upper East Side bar, The Penrose. What Ilyssa didn't know was that this was an elaborate ruse, planned by Perry. Ilyssa had just left work and was on her way when Jenn called her, "crying", because of some incident at work which meant that Jenn would have to cancel on Ilyssa. Ilyssa then called Perry to let him know she’d be coming home earlier than planned (as Perry knew she would). Perry said okay and suggested that they order dinner in. Jenn kept close tabs on Ilyssa through text message, and when Ilyssa was on the block of their apartment, Perry called her. He said the doorman told him about cool holiday lights that you could see from the roof of their building and asked if she wanted to come take a look. Ilyssa was hesitant but eventually agreed. Once Ilyssa made it to the roof, to her surprise, Perry was standing at the end of an aisle lined with candles and gold roses, waiting to propose. Behind him, the New York City skyline lit up the sky. Ilyssa asked, “Are you serious, is this real!?” and began tearing up. Perry & Ilyssa had a sweet moment together, and then he got one knee. Ilyssa & Perry made their way downstairs from the roof and their immediate families and a few close friends were waiting there to celebrate. Even Ilyssa’s nephews Ethan and Levi made it to NYC to celebrate, which was very special. It was truly a night they’ll never forget and a start to their next chapter together.
