Josh and Emily met in 2017 on a European island off the coast of Portugal. How did they end up on an island halfway around the world? Well, that story begins 4 years prior in 2013 where Meagan (Emily’s sister) married Brian Beck. Josh and Emily were both in the Beck’s wedding party but don’t remember meeting each other. This is an important part of the story because it sets the course for Josh and Emily’s second “first” meeting. Flashforward to 2017 Joe Pichotta, a close friend of Josh and Brian, was planning his wedding for Madeira, Portugal. Not wanting to leave their 14-month old daughter behind in Minnesota, Meagan asked Emily to come along as their travel nanny. The Beck’s and Emily were staying in a large house with some other friends. Pulling up to the house, a man was waiting to greet the new arrivals - dressed in swim trunks, a large white fluffy robe, matching slippers, and sipping on a fresh pint of beer. Peering around the back seat Emily asked “Who is that?” Laughing Brian just said, “That’s, Josh.”Getting out of the car, Emily offered Josh a casual handshake. Josh shook his head and said “Oh no, I’m a hugger. Bring it in!” He gave Emily a big bear hug and whispered “You can call me Uncle Tony.” in her ear. With the standard awkward Lund family greeting complete Josh gave everyone a tour of the house. Something that should have only taken 15 minutes he stretched into an hour, insisting they use the elevator between each floor. Josh and Emily got to know each other throughout the week at the various wedding activities. On the final night while everyone was busy packing to go home Josh worked up the courage to ask Emily for her number. When he handed her his phone the battery immediately died, thinking quickly on her feet Emily gave Josh her last business card. Smiling and looking at the card he said “I’ll fax you.” Josh and Emily returned to the states on Thursday and had their first date on Saturday. And well folks, the rest is history!
