We're a product of COVID, so naturally we met on a dating app, Hinge, in the middle of 2020. It's important to both of us to emphasize that it wasn't Tinder, haha. We decided to take a leap of faith, trust that we weren't both going to get COVID, and went on our first date at La Grande Orange for pizza and wine. We would both tell you we knew eachother was the one right away. After dinner, we set up date #2 - the next day at Berdena's in Old Town Scottsdale for coffee! Standing in line for coffee, my phone is getting call after call from my brother, Ty, and sister-in-law, Shama. I'm politely ignoring all of their calls to turn around in line for coffee and see Ty and Shama. Ilsa met the family on the 2nd date! We've seen eachother almost every day since and have kept our coffee / pizza / wine traditions going strong!
Leading up to what I thought was just another super fun vacation to visit Kyle and Amanda Lewis in Lake Tahoe, there was some secret planning on Casey's end. In months leading up to the trip, at Old Brockway Golf Course in Lake Tahoe, Kyle was talking to a random man at the time, Mr. Schuman, and it came up that Kyle had played baseball at University of Arizona. Mr. Schuman shared he coached a kid in baseball that also played for Arizona, and they made the connection that it was their mutual friend, Casey. Small world! Kyle shared we were actually visiting soon and the Schumans insisted we come visit them at their home on Lake Tahoe while we were there. So months before the trip, I was casually told we were going to visit Casey's old baseball coach while we were there. None of this was suspicious to me as Casey knows everybody and everybody who knows Casey, loves him, so it didn't seem out of the norm. On the 2nd night of trip, we went to the Schuman's house on our way to dinner. We were so warmly welcomed and they offered to take us on a tour of their house, plus they had a dog I was a little distracted petting. They took Casey and I out to their back yard and onto their private dock and Mr. Schuman suggested we take one of his boats out. He leaves to get the keys and Casey and I are left on this beautiful dock at sunset. Casey starts to kneel and put his wine on the ground... while I wasn't sure what was happening, I kind of mirrored him and started to kneel and I put my wine on the ground...then Casey's big smile made me realize what was going on and I stood right up! I have no idea what he said, but I know he proposed and it was the most special moment of our lives! Made even more special by Casey arranging Kyle and Amanda's wedding photographer to capture the proposal!
