Christopher and Jessica met while she was working nights at Sentara Leigh ER and he was stationed at Norfolk Fire Station 11 . One fateful night in February 2014, Jessica was talking with a friend at work; henceforth, to be referred to as "JT", about JT's current love life. JT was secretly dating a fireman and Jessica was supposed to be the only person at work to know about the relationship. She gave Jessica all details except a description of the firefighter or his name and it was driving Jessica CRAZY! Later that night, while Christopher was writing up a report at the charge nurse's station, JT walked up to him to say "hi". JT gave Chris a hug and hip bump, and started up a conversation with fun, flirty banter. Of Course, Jessica bounced up to the two of them; impulsive and extremely excited she had figured out the man from the "secret relationship"! She blurted out "so this is him!!!!" Jessica has a tendency to speak without thinking first. This was not "him". The secret was out! Christopher turned to JT and said "So you're dating a fireman huh? Who is he?!?" JT turned bright red, hung her head to avoid eye contact and stammered and stuttered. For once in her life the fluent woman was at loss for words. She finally yelled "Dammit Jessica!" Jessica desperately attempted to backpedal and save the situation; but, alas there was no hope. The deer in headlights look on her face made it apparent how badly she had screwed up. She finally managed to stutter out, "I was making sure the two of you weren't dating so I could ask him out is all!" Then she practically ran away. He asked her out three months later.

For their first OFFICIAL date Christopher brought Jessica to her favorite restaurant, 80/20 burger bar. Prior to that the had an impulsive pre-date at one of Jessica's friend's 30th birthday party where Christopher showed up with a present- not for the birthday boy but for Jessica herself! Unicorns and chocolate. Two of her favorite things. Christopher showed up to 80/20 and hour early and had a shot of whiskey to calm his nerves. When Jessica arrived he met her at her car and walked her inside to their table. Dinner was amazing and the company was even better. Christopher always said he knew Jessica was "the one" on this date. It took Jessica a bit longer. After dinner the two of them drove to cookout for milkshakes and talked for hours in the car. Right before the date ended they shared their first kiss. The date was perfect.
