Some co-workers invited us for after work beers and "by coincidence" sat us next to one another. A cheeseburger, one buffalo chicken salad (people don't forget David) and a few beers later, we were laughing and making fun of each other. We immediately got along and had a fantastic time, the rest is history. Since then we have been the best of friends and enjoyed many great adventures in each others company. If we're not hanging out with our beloved cats and building Legos, we’re usually riding bikes, planning our next mountain adventure, building costumes for Star Wars conventions, or at Disneyland eating our way through the park.
Being HUGE Star Wars fans (our house looks like we robbed Skywalker Ranch), we were both SO excited to attend the opening of Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland in June last year! I was in fact, so excited and distracted that I had zero idea David was going to propose while there! One moment we're getting our photos taken in front of the Millennium Falcon, the next he's holding a small hinged box in front of me. In his typical laid back David-ness, he put a hand on my shoulder, smiled, and said "Hey! Will you marry me?" There I was, mouth agape and making many goofy faces of surprise (ALL of which were captured by the Disney photographer) and shouting yes! In both our minds, our hearts have been inseparable for a very long time but David decided it was about damn time to make it official.
On our first long distance road trip together, David wanted to show me the small mountain town he had camped in the year prior on a mountain bike trip. Everything he described made it sound like some place out of a story book. He drove me through the San Juan Mountains and its 14’ers, stopping to fish and peak around the towns dotting the way. Then, we came up the mountain road and I instantly fell in love. Towering mountains on all sides, historic victorian buildings lining each street, and Bridal Veil Falls visible drifting down the craggy wall behind town. Christmas trees hugged by alpine flowers were everywhere; it was a truly magical place. We spent our days there exploring, trying delicious food, riding our bikes at the resort and camping at a secluded lake at 12,000 ft. We found ourselves not wanting to leave and have been returning since.
