In 2013, Zack took the undergraduate class The History of Medicine. One year later, Ilana took this same course and was gifted Zack's notes. Two months later, Ilana was in the library and overheard someone next to her say, "Hey, Bergman, can you pass me my laptop charger?" Ilana instantly recognized the last name Bergman as the author of the notes she had used all semester. She nearly jumped out of her seat as she exclaimed, "Oh my goodness, are you, Zack Bergman? I think you are the reason I am getting an A in this class!" Zack, of course, admitted that he was the owner of said notes and they began to talk about this course they had in common. Little did they know, this introduction was the beginning of their most incredible adventure; four years of long-distance between New Orleans and Ann Arbor, a year in Seattle, a new home in Baltimore, MD, and an upcoming year in Nashville, TN!

Zack thought there would be no better way to cap off their time in the enchanting city of Seattle by popping the question two weeks before their coastal move to Baltimore. Zack treated Ilana to brunch, followed by an afternoon in the park to celebrate her passing her social work exam (at least this is what Ilana thought they were celebrating). At the end of what Ilana thought was an innocent stroll outside, Zack ushered Ilana into Volunteer Park's stunning conservatory. To Ilana's total shock, Zack got down on one knee and asked Ilana to marry him! To top it off, Zack had arranged for a photographer to capture the moment, as well as an afternoon & evening filled with champagne, close friends, and lots of phone calls.
