It all started when Leslie was in Georgia visiting family. Out of curiosity, she switched her Hinge location from Austin to Atlanta. Never imagining it would lead her to Ignacio. She swiped a little, logged out, and didn’t think much of it until she was back in Texas days later. When she checked the app again, she noticed Ignacio’s like and matched with him, thinking he was in Texas. Meanwhile, Ignacio thought Leslie was in Georgia. For days they talked, completely unaware they were in two different states. It wasn’t until Leslie mentioned going to a concert and Ignacio said he hadn’t heard that band was in town that they realized the truth and honestly, their first thought was basically, “What did we get ourselves into?” They chatted for a couple of days, then drifted apart. But God had other plans. Months later, Leslie was back in Georgia, and this time Ignacio asked her on a date. Leslie almost didn’t go as she had never been on a Hinge date before, and nearly talked herself out of it. But she mustered up the courage, telling herself that if the date was awful, it didn’t matter because she was flying home to Texas in just a few days. But it wasn’t awful. It was amazing. They talked for hours, realizing how much they had in common and how easy it felt to be together. That same night Ignacio asked to see her again. And then again the next day, and the next. Leslie quickly saw that Ignacio wasn’t just looking for something casual. From the very beginning he was kind, gentle, intentional, and made her feel like a princess. Ignacio had always been open to finding someone he could build a serious relationship with, while Leslie hadn’t really believed in Hinge..... but this connection felt different. Since she was a little girl, Leslie had prayed for her future husband. She prayed that he would be kind, honest, and intentional from the very start. Little by little, she began to see that God was answering that prayer in Ignacio. Even though they were two independent people living in two different states, they shared the same values, dreams, and faith. Once Leslie returned to Texas, they had long conversations about whether it would even be worth it to try long distance. It would mean flights, time apart, and a lot of patience. But deep down, they both believed God was bringing them together for a reason. They decided to take a step of faith, trusting that He was writing a beautiful story, one they’d share with their children someday. For the first eight months of their relationship, they dated long distance. It wasn’t easy, but they made it work. Taking turns flying to each other, soaking up every moment together, and finding that each goodbye became harder than the last. Ignacio’s heart was already in Texas with Leslie, so eight months in, he loaded up his 4Runner and a U-Haul and moved his life to Texas. Four months later, he proposed. From a swipe on Hinge to cross-country flights, their story has been anything but ordinary.
