Our relationship is one that no one saw coming. We first met while working together at Sentara in the Emergency Department. I, a nurse and he, a Firefighter/ED tech. Kyle was full of himself (he still is) and I was not about it, until the weekend we were scheduled to work together every day. I had a patient who we did not know was as sick as she was. I ambulated her to the bathroom where she passed out (she had a significant GI bleed). I pushed her up against the wall and yelled “help?!” Kyle came in, grabbed her for me, and we got her on the stretcher. I told Kyle “Thanks” as he started to help clean her up. I told him “ you don’t have to do that ... I can” and he replied “no, it’s fine”. At that moment I remember thinking “hmmm I guess he isn’t as bad as I thought”. Later that night, after it had slowed down some, I was charting at a computer and Kyle sat at the one across from me. He pulled out his best moves, trying to be sauve, but then made some reference to Harry Potter. I didn’t believe it and I questioned him further about HP to actually see if he was a fan. Again, he was able to reference something only someone who had read the books and paid attention would know. He then told me he was a Slytherin. Needless to say, I was sold. It took almost year before we started dating but the wait was worth it! After less than 2 years of dating with multiple vacations, new experiences, and living together; Kyle proposed on September 1, 2018 while I was laying in bed (aka my favorite place). I was studying for a test and he came in with his boxing gloves like he always does, trying to distract me. Then he got down on one knee next to the bed and asked me to marry him! I still remember that night perfectly! Now on September 28, 2019 we get to become husband and wife in front of our friends and family. Neither of us can wait!
