It all began at a high school volleyball game. We were both there with our own group of friends, who happened to be siting near each other. I was close friends with one of the individuals Justin was hanging out with. I went over there and said hello to my friend, and he introduced me to Justin. I decided to stay there to continue to talk with him and watch the game. We ended up talking and laughing the whole time we were there, barely even paying attention to the game we came to watch. It was time for me to leave and head home. I said goodbye, and as I began to turn away, Justin had asked for my telephone number. I honestly did not expect to hear anything from him but I gave it to him anyway. Before I even made it to my car, I looked at my phone and had a text message from him.
Form the day we met at the volleyball game onward, we talked everyday. Eventually our friendship turned into an everlasting relationship. On April 7th, Justin and I went out to lunch and he surprised me with a dozen of my favorite flowers (pink roses), and my favorite Starbucks drink (caramel frappuccino). We sat and talked for quite sometime, and during our conversations, he asked me to officially be his girlfriend. To this day I am so thankful that God led both of us to that volleyball or we may have never found each other. FUN FACT: I dried the roses Justin gave me the first day we officially started dating, and I still have them to this date in a large glass jar.
Our four year anniversary was two days prior; we were unable to celebrate because we both had to work that day. Justin's birthday was the next day but we were going to be practically traveling the whole day on our way to San Francisco for vacation with the family. In order to celebrate our anniversary and Justin's birthday, I planned a surprise birthday party for him at our house and invited both of our families to gather. To this day I am almost positive that Justin already knew about the party. Anyways, after we sang happy birthday and Justin blew out the candles, he got up and went to our room. Everyone still had their phones out video taping. I was a little confused but I just figured everyone was just excited to celebrate Justin's birthday. A sort period later, Justin came out of the room and began to give a short speech. It began, "I want to thank you guys for coming to celebrate my birthday, it really means a lot to me that you are all here. We are all family but I just want to make it official." While down on one knee he asked, "Marissa Suzette Witten, will you marry me?" Shaking in excitement and complete utter shock, of course I said yes! I was sooo excited I did not even let Justin put the ring on my finger all the way, I slid my shinning, beautiful ring the rest of the way and held it up! We have embarked on the amazing journey of engagement together; it is safe to say the excitement is never ending.
