The Longest First Date EverThe Longest First Date Ever

#ourlovestory

The year was 2021—a curious time in our world. As the haze of a global pandemic slowly began to lift, and people longed to reclaim the lives they once knew, fate stirred quietly in the background. In two distant corners of the country, two extraordinary souls—strangers to each other—made a bold decision: to hike one of the most legendary trails on Earth. It was a choice that would set destiny in motion and change their lives forever. We met on March 27th, 2021, at mile marker 166 on the Appalachian Trail—on the very ground where, five years later, we will vow to spend the rest of their lives together. We didn’t know it then, but the next five months would become our “longest first date”. To explain how the trail changes a person is nearly impossible. It’s not just a journey of miles, but of transformation—a deep, soul-stirring shift from who you once were to someone completely changed. It tests your limits—body, mind, and soul—but also expands them in ways you never imagined. Finding love—true, raw, unfiltered, sometimes stinky —on the trail was one of the greatest gifts we could have ever received. Together, we walked through snowstorms, heat waves, and hurricanes. In those wild and unpredictable miles, we found not only ourselves, but each other. We forged a bond that feels timeless and unbreakable. We say the Smoky Mountains are where we fell in love—and it’s true. From day one, we were partners: looking out for one another, sleeping beside each other, and completing our first 20-plus mile day side by side. Now, as we stand once again in the place where it all began—looking out over the mountains where our love took root—it feels surreal and achingly beautiful. We will forever be grateful that we both chose to hike the Appalachian Trail when we did. We now know that fate is real. We are living proof. And our love for the trail—just like our love for each other—will never fade. Love, Pistol & Lobo
