Long Distance Love Story

"I see the results of my patience. Thank you Jehovah!" - Idara

I was invited to take a trip to The Gambia in December 2022 with a sister from my congregation. I was eager to participate in the preaching and teaching work, telling others about the good news of God’s Kingdom! While in Gambia, we had the privilege of being invited to a baptism that was held on December 25, 2022. I was giving out personal souvenirs to a few of the friends that were there. It included a small gift and my contact information. That is where I met Emmanuel! We didn’t speak much. I spoke with him briefly AND forgot to give him a souvenir that day. I was then on my way back to the hotel. Surprisingly, two days later, as I was finishing up my preaching work, I received an email that said, “Emmanuel from Gambia”. I was so shocked! He retrieved my contact card from one of his friends that was at the baptism. We emailed each other for a few minutes until he asked for my number. Then he proceeded to invite me to his congregation meeting. I gathered my arrangements and attended the meeting the next day. He also came by the next day (Thursday, day before my departure), and gave me a few gifts to take home. What I thought would be just a few minutes of talking turned out to be at least 5 hours of talking and laughing! With just those two times of seeing each other, I was flattered by his persistent efforts, kindness, and gentleness towards me! We agreed to stay in contact with each other once I arrived back home to Georgia. I went back to visit him again and shortly thereafter; Emmanuel and I were engaged! Even though we wished to be together physically, our long-distance relationship brought us closer than ever. We were able to let our love grow strong with Jehovah’s help. We spent every day communicating with each other through Whats App by texting and calling. We also spend our recreational time on Zoom to watch movies, play music, and even have date nights where we dress up and eat the food we prepared. Because we feel that Jehovah helped us meet each other, we always make sure of the important things by including something spiritual in our daily routine. He calls me a special name in Yoruba, “Idunu mi”, which translates “My Happiness”. I call him a special name in Yoruba, “Itunu mi”, which translates “My Comfort”.

For all the days along the way
