We met while attending a tabletop & gaming convention in Indianapolis, GenCon. Emma had gone outside to get fresh air and watch the sunset, and Ian had gone to try that year's specialty beer. Coincidentally, we sat next to each other on a barricade. Both of us were in a very weird and hard time of our lives. Ian ended up asking Emma out for a drink, which she accepted! We went to a local pub called the Slippery Noodle, where there was only seating available outside. We sat among knights in suits of armor, girls in body paint, fairies and aliens. Sitting down, we found a little, wet and cold pigeon on a table begging anyone who'd look for attention. Obviously, Emma immediately grabbed her and Ian searched out food & water for it. We talked for hours that night, before Kathy and Nick (Emma's family) joined. That pigeon ended up coming home with Emma and became our little buddy, Penelope <3 After the convention, we stayed in contact for months while Ian traveled the world for work. He surprised Emma with a visit to a tiny little convention held in Cincinnati to be able to see her again, and the rest is history....
