Flight
(BJX) BAJÍO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - LEÓN/GUANAJUATO The Leon airport is about an hour and fifteen minute drive from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. It is the most popular airport for people traveling to San Miguel, and Kendel and Rob's go-to. We recommend avoiding connecting flights in Mexico depending on your experience flying in Mexico. Flights to/from the US include Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. See below for direct, safe shuttle services. (QRO) QUERÉTARO INTERCONTINENTAL AIRPORT, QUERÉTARO The Queretaro airport is about an hour drive away from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Like BJX, we recommend flying direct from the US if possible depending on your experience flying in Mexico. QRO has direct flights from Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Detroit. See below for direct, safe shuttle services. (MEX) MEXICO CITY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT BENITO JUAREZ MEX is also an option, and often the most affordable. It is a 3.5-5 hour drive/ride depending on traffic. Along with the shuttle option below, there are some options for nice coach buses that are safe that can take you directly from the airport to San Miguel. Contact us if you want to go this route and we can give you more information! We don't recommend renting a car in Mexico city and driving unless you are very used to driving in Mexico and which routes are the most safe. If you want to spend a day or two in Mexico city on either end, flying here is a great way to do it. We are happy to give recommendations for safe and beautiful neighborhoods you can stay in - it's one of our favorite places to visit!
Rental Car
As soon as you book your flight, make a reservation through the link below with your flight information. They are a very safe and well known company many of us have used. The company will schedule a pick up and drop off from the airport to your San Miguel hotel or house rental. There is an option for private transport or a shared shuttle service. Once in Mexico, the number for calling if needed is +52 415 185 8665.
Travel Note
Rental Cars are not required, however depending on what you want your experience to be in SMA you may want one (i.e. if you plan on sightseeing around). If you plan on principally staying in San Miguel, it is a very walkable city and taxis are readily available. If you do rent a car we recommend renting one straight from the airport for convenience. Just be sure to check the parking situation where you're staying, and know that finding parking can often be difficult in downtown SMA.
Travel Note
This site is a great resource to filter through hotels in San Miguel. We also recommend Booking.com or Airbnb.com. Some recommended boutique hotels are also listed below. There are many great areas to stay in San Miguel, but if you're not renting a car we recommend staying within walking distance of the Centro (e.g. Jardín Allende) or Parque Benito Juárez.
