We're getting married!

It all started one Tuesday at Young Life leadership, October(ish) 2019. Abby was already a leader and Jack was a “trainee” preparing to be placed as a leader alongside the other trainees around the start of the year. At almost every leadership the trainees have to introduce themselves to the group of “veteran leaders”. Abby remembers Jack introducing himself and saying that he was from Burlington, NC and played soccer in high school. Because Abby had also grown up in North Carolina, an hour from Burlington, and played soccer in high school she wanted to talk to and get to know him. Nothing really came of their first conversation, but Abby remembers thinking that Jack seemed like a really cool guy. Thinking that Jack would be an awesome friend to have, Abby and one of her best friends, and Young Life teammates, Britney decided that they were going to become his friend. After several failed attempts to even talk to him, they somewhat stopped trying. A few months later in December, Abby dmed Jack on Instagram off of a story that he had posted. They started talking, and never really stopped. They both started to develop feelings. As January 2020 rolled around, Abby was preparing to leave to go to Spain for an internship but knew that she wanted to go on a date with Jack before she left. In a very smooth way (she likes to say) Abby set up a situation where Jack would have an open door to ask her out. Jack took the bait, and they went on their first date to Converge Coffee Bar in Burlington. They had the best time and ended up hanging out a few more times before Abby left. The day before she left, they were on FaceTime and Jack confessed his feelings for her. Obviously giddy, Abby shared that she had feelings for him too. While Abby was in Spain, they continued to talk pretty much every day and started dating while she was there. They started dating February, 4th 2020, and dated for 16 months exactly, until they got engaged on June, 4th 2021 in HAWAII.

The Mundy Family had been planning a vacation to Hawaii and Jack decided he was going to ask his mom if Abby could come. Jack told Abby that his mom said she couldn’t come. After being told this, his mom called Abby to tell her that they DID want her to come with them, BUT it would be a surprise for Jack. SHE WAS IN. June 1st rolled around and Abby showed up at the airport to surprise Jack and join the Mundy Family vacation to Maui. Three days passed in Hawaii and the family was getting ready to go to a “25th Anniversary Dinner” for Jack’s parents. Right before they were about to leave Jack started not feeling well, causing him and Abby to have to drive separately and meet the family at the restaurant. On the way to the restaurant, Jack’s mom called to tell him that the restaurant had to push their reservation back an hour. Jack suggested that him and Abby go to a nearby beach to kill some time while they are waiting. Abby agreed, and they drove to Po’olenalena Beach. Jack’s family decided they would just wait at the restaurant. When they got out of the car, they walked along a path by some rocks to the most beautiful beach Abby had EVER seen. As they stepped down off the rocks and onto the beach, Jack began to talk. As he continued talking, Abby realized what was happening. As Jack got down on one knee - she realized that HE HAD KNOWN THE ENTIRE TIME she was coming. She began to cry as he asked her to marry him, to which her answer was a confident YES. His family then popped out of the bushes along with a photographer where they had been hiding. They then had a photoshoot and found out that dinner was actually at 7:30 to celebrate their engagement!! It had been Jack's idea to surprise Abby the whole time by making her think she was surprising him... Let’s just say this was the best day of their lives (and the Mundy Family has some impeccable acting skills).
